To do in Atlanta Thursday May 6, Art & Architecture

If all goes well, the Architecture Tourists will be out this Thursday night for 3+ free events. There are review questions at the end of this post.

The Georgia Trust is hosting a series of events for National Preservation Month. It's all free as near as I can tell.

I'm hoping to attend a presentation, "...and the first runner up is ... the Split-Level House" by Richard Cloues. It's at 5:45 at Rhodes Hall, Atlanta's premiere (and maybe only) Richardson Romanesque mansion. This is a an architecture "2-fer." You probably won't see this one:

Of course May 6 features the First Thursday Buckhead Art Stroll, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. We'll start on Bennett Street. There are always some opening receptions on First Thursday's. That means snacks and drinks, and fresh art and meeting the artists in person.
This is Anne Irwin Fine Art:

And Maitre Gallery:

By the time we've seen these and other Bennett Street galleries we'll need a break.

So we'll hop in the car and head to Westside's White Provision where Astolfi Art is hosting a reception for "BOSQUE 2," an exhibition of works by contemporary artists
Luis Garcia-Nerey and Anke Schofield.

Who knows? You might run into some of your buds. (David Lewis and Katherine at the Thornton Dial show at White Provision.)

Review:
  • Free.
  • Art and Artists.
  • Architecture.
  • Food and Drink.
  • Convenient Midtown, south Buckhead, and Westside locations.
  • Perfect Atlanta spring evening weather.
What were you planning to do? Watch TV?

See you,
Terry

  1. Oh, no. All of that looks so fun but I'm attending a birthday party for a friend...that is if I can get over this cold that has been lingering around for the last few days. Have fun and post lots of pictures like you always do so I can feel like I was there. :o) -Cristi

  2. Sounds like fun! I'll be at a new parent party for my rising 9th grader, but I did go to a cocktail reception at Belvedere tonight - where Hutton Wilkinson was signing his book More is More. It was lots of fun and the design crowd was out in force.
